There are dozens of different types of body armour and different levels of protection worn dependentnf on the expected threat level.



SWAT teams generally wear level IIIA vests with level IV hard armour inserts which are very heavy. US Militray (Army and Marines etc) also tend to wear this level with similar inserts. General patrol police wear more often than not wear IIA vests under their uniform as they're lighter and more comfotable than large bulky outer tactical vests.



Ballistic helmets are generally a maxium of level IIIA.



IIIA will not stop a 7.62x39mm round (AK) but a level IV strike plate will. Thus, it depends where someone wearing body armour gets shot as to whether an AK round will defeat their vest.

-I'd Say It Probably Would Penetrate Body Armor, Although i Don't Know What Body Armor Is Made Of, But If It's Just A Plate Metal, The 223 Remington Round Would Pierce It With Ease.
