Can you track USPS media mail?

Question

I just sent a book through USPS media mail but did not request that the package be tracked. I have the receipt but there is no number that specifically says tracking number. There is:

-"Bill #: w/ 13 digits"
-A number under the address "10 #s - 4#s"
-A transaction # > "3#s then goes down a line & ** ********* **********"

I sold a book through Half.com and in order to tell the recipient I shipped the package it is requiring a valid tracking number. If I don't have one, should I just e-mail the recipient and let them know myself?

You would have had to purchase Delivery Confirmation service. Although not a true tracking number, it is more than you have now, which is nothing. There is no way to track Media Mail.

If you are printing out a shipping label through ebay then media mail comes with tracking. I just sent a media mail thick envelope (12.5 x 9.5) and when I was purchasing postage through ebay it automatically included tracking info for free. The shipping label ended up looking exactly the same as when I use priority mail.

One number may say, "Delivery Confirmation" or "Confirmation number."



Use that.
