Medicare company sent us mail, can we request more info?

A Medicare company called Wellcare sent us information and along with it was a form tthat said to add email and phone number so that they can call and email us witth more.information, is this a scam? How can i check if they'll sell my info to third-party companies??

They are not a scam. Medicare does not allow companies or brokers that sell Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) or Medicare prescription drug plans (Part D) to call or contact you by any means other than through the mail without your permission. When you send your contact information you give them permission, although that permission is short lived. Anybody contacting you to sell those plans without permission is breaking the law.



Companies and brokers are permitted to contact you to sell a Medicare Supplement, but cannot mention the Part C or D plans unless you bring it up. This is one way that companies and brokers get around the law.



To answer your question, they will not sell your information to other companies but they may pass it along to contracted brokers and agents.



To make it simple if you are in need of any of these plans call an agent that works not only with Wellcare but also with all of the other major companies in your area. That person can compare the different plans for you and will tell you the good and the bad with all plans.

They ARE a third party. They get your name and address from Medicare or other senior contacts you make or mailing lists and data bases like the DMV. This is probably a Medigap policy they are selling. You can buy one from any insurance company. They all offer identical benefits but prices vary.
