First, get some facts...

investors don't give a damn what people are paid, as long as the profits stay at a level where they can get a decent return for their investment. While people getting paid less for more work sounds like it fits this scenario, remember that it's the people who eventually buy the product; if they can't afford the product, there is no profit!

Detroit went bankrupt because the city and the people in the city assumed that they could control the corporations by demanding more pay, while buying less product. That meant having to improve the production facilities, cutting down on the number of workers, and hence in the number of places that the city could tax. The corporations, although they could be regarded as greedy for profit, failed because the people and the city failed, not the other way round.

Detroit's been on the edge of bankruptcy for more than 30 years, not just this year.

Workers work for pay and satisfaction and to make provision for their families

Corporations have to satisfy there stockholders, both kinds. (mostly long term ones) so they need to make money and keep making money.

Politicians are interested mainly in the next election.

Which of these three will only be interested in the short term? Politicians of course. To win elections they make promises. Mostly ones they know they cannot keep. Or that will have consequences in the long term while providing 'goodies' in the short term.

Therein lies Detroit's problem. As Stockton, California already found out (bankruptcy).

Sadly, the same scenario is being played out right now nationally. When will the bill come due? Probably sooner than many imagine.

Here is a definition of politicians.

Neither really what killed Detroit was the Population Shrinkage Due to the Companies moving Because it was becoming to unionized and the workers were starting to ask way to high of pay for the work they do so they were forced to move then the housing market fail there then the businesses started to lose money because of tightening of the average persons budget restrictions.
